Toro Del Funk – Mancunia Funk gets a well deserved release!
February 26, 2010
My good friend Toro Del Funk recently had some smashing news re his latest track ‘Mancunia Funk’.
Net-label Axis Trax are to release the delicious minimal house track and to arrange a couple of remixes. Congrats TDF, although I’m not quite sure if he was more pleased that he got a congratulatory tweet from Funkagenda! I hope they put it out on vinyl for him, I might have an excuse to go and buy a turntable then.Posted via email from Awaken.
Free mp3 – Hidan – Timelinemusic for iPhone
February 6, 2010I’ve been asked a couple of times to make an mp3 available of the iPhone video I made last year. You can download it straight from this blog post below in the embedded Soundcloud widget. Mmmmm, widget.
Jay Stansfield – Twelve songs in Twelve days
February 5, 2010I’ve only just started listening to this, I’m 40 seconds into the first tune, I know it’s going to be amazing, I don’t know how long it’s been up, I’ve only just found Jay Stansfield on Soundcloud. If you don’t like it, or if it doesn’t inspire you to make something, you can spit on my back the next time I’m walking away from you.
Tokyo 2005 – Parsed
January 26, 2010I just finished browsing Samuel Qwok’s Soundcloud, there’s some lovely music on there, all free too mind, get your Pea all wet and get over there with your Earballs open.
His Longford Squire project reminded me that I did something similar a decade ago, it was the ‘original’ Tokyo 2005 project, and it was born about 35 seconds after Chris Cheetham introduced me to Stars of the Lid.
It’s all Glum ambient guitar music, it’s hardly going to win any popular music prizes but it’s quite nice to fall asleep to and it was nice for me to revisit it if only to see how painfully alternative I thought I was when I was 25.
It’s up at Soundcloud, you can download the tracks if you’d like to fall asleep to them, it’s kind of what they were meant for in the first place.

DRUMMER WANTED – Laughing Gravy – Prog Rock for Idiots
January 14, 2010Here are a couple of pictures of the embryonic beginnings of my new band. The guitar is a Black Tokai SG, expertly discovered as part of a grand eBay haul by my good friend and business partner, Mark Tolle. The keyboard set up comprises of a genuine Hammond Organ, a Jen SX1000 analogue monosynth (we have two of these, I’ll be playing the other) and a generic digital Rhodes Piano.
The band so far is myself and my long term musical wingman, Steve Wilson, overlord of The Bunker studio in Ashton Under Lyne, and my newest best bass playing pal, Dave Molynuex of 80′s popsters ‘Explained Emma’. I’m not sure Dave has a clue what he’s letting himself in for but as soon as we’ve found a suitable drummer we’ll be churning out some filth. We’re kinda going for an Early Genesis meets, Yes, meets, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Queens of the Stoneage…. Or as Steve Wilson put it to me..
“The James Taylor quartet meets Zep while having a pint of mild with Genesis and a spliff with Bootsy Collins and Sly Stone, while wearing a diamond star halo on the way there”. Everything is in place so all we need is a drummer. We have a permanent rehearsal space, a drum kit that’s permanently set up, all you need to bring is your smokes and sticks, oh and we have more recording gear than you can flood a toilet at. So If you know your 9/8 from your paradiddles and you live in or near Manchester and fancy having your banter and music muscles massaged for a while you can contact me on 07872 968 125.
